Breaking Barriers: Why IVF Insurance in India Needs Urgent Attention

For many couples in India, IVF is the only way to achieve their dream of parenthood. But this journey comes with a heavy price—financially, emotionally, and mentally.

A single IVF cycle in India costs anywhere between ₹1.5 lakh to ₹3 lakh, and success may requires multiple cycles in some couples. With no mandatory insurance coverage, couples are forced to bear these costs entirely out of pocket, leading to financial strain, emotional stress, and, in many cases, the heartbreaking decision to stop treatment due to lack of funds.

While a few insurance providers like Niva Bupa, Care Health, and SafeTree have started offering coverage for infertility treatments, comprehensive IVF insurance is still rare. SafeTree, a growing name in the sector, is making strides in providing financial security to couples undergoing IVF, but such initiatives remain limited. Without broader adoption by insurers and support from policymakers, IVF remains out of reach for many aspiring parents.

It’s time for a change. Infertility is a medical condition, not a choice, and access to treatment should not be dictated by financial barriers. We need more insurers to step up and offer IVF-specific insurance, ensuring couples don’t have to choose between their savings and their dream of having a child.

What are your thoughts? Should IVF insurance be made a standard offering in India?
