Who is IVF usually discussed for?

A fertility check is usually advised when a couple under 35 has not conceived after 12 months of regular, unprotected sex. If the woman is 35 or above, doctors often suggest a check after 6 months. IVF is not the first step for everyone. The doctor may discuss it when:

  • earlier treatment has not led to a pregnancy
  • no clear cause has been found after tests
  • the fallopian tubes are damaged or blocked
  • the number of eggs in reserve is low
  • sperm count or movement is low
  • a condition such as endometriosis is involved

This is general information, not a diagnosis. Tests are usually advised for both partners. If IVF is not needed yet, the doctor will say so.

What to expect on day one

Your first visit is a private talk with the doctor. You speak about your health, your periods and how long you have been trying. If you bring earlier reports, the doctor reads them. Some tests may be advised, such as hormone tests, a scan and a semen analysis. When the results are ready, the doctor explains them and tells you whether IVF is advised. You are welcome to ask questions, and you can take time before deciding. Nothing has to start on the same day. With a busy job, you can also ask the team which time of day suits your tests.

Your IVF journey step by step

Every plan is made for the couple, but most cycles follow this order. Read more on our IVF treatment in Noida page.

  1. First talk. You share your history and any earlier reports.
  2. Tests. Both partners may have tests to find what is affecting conception.
  3. Plan. The doctor explains the steps, the timeline and what may change along the way.
  4. Medicines and scans. Medicines help eggs mature, and scans and blood tests show how your body responds.
  5. Egg collection. Mature eggs are collected in a short procedure under medical care.
  6. Embryo growth. In the laboratory, eggs meet sperm and the embryos are watched as they grow.
  7. Embryo transfer. A suitable embryo is placed in the uterus when the doctor feels the time is right, and a pregnancy test follows.

A fresh cycle usually takes around two to four weeks from the start of medicines to embryo transfer, though your own timeline may differ.

Papers to keep ready

A few papers help the doctor understand your story faster. If you have them, bring:

  • the dates of your last few periods
  • your list of current medicines
  • earlier scans, blood tests and semen reports
  • papers from any past fertility treatment
  • your questions, written down

If you have none of these, you can still come. The doctor will explain which tests are needed.
